I heard the laughter at the d epot
But my tears f ell like the r ain
When I saw them place that long white c asket
In the baggage c oach of th e evening t rain.
The baby's eyes are red from w eepin'
It's little h eart is filled with p ain.
"Oh daddy" it cried "they're taking m ama
Away f rom us on the e vening t rain."
A s I turned to walk away from the d epot
It seemed I h eard her call my n ame
"Take care of my baby and tell him d arling'
That I'm going h ome on the e vening t rain.
I pray that God will give me c ourage
To carry o n till we meet a gain.
It's hard to know she's gone f orever.
They're carrying her h ome on the e vening t rain
I pray that God will give me c ourage
To carry o n till we meet a gain.
It's hard to know she's gone f orever.
They're carrying her h ome on the e vening t rain
They're carrying her home on the evening train
