From the f ountains in the mountains
comes the w ater running cool and clear and b lue.
And it c omes down from the hills
and it g oes down to the towns and passes t hrough.
When it g ets down to the cities
then the water turns into a dirty g ray.
It's p oisoned and polluted
by the p eople as it goes along its w ay.
D on't go near the water children
see the fish all dead upon the s hore.
D on't go near the water
cause the w ater isn't w ater any-m ore.
I took my boy fishin' to my old favorite fishin' hole.
I had caught many a fish out of that deep clear water
From the time I was a boy like him.
I said: "I think I got a nibble son."
"Me too" he said.
Then he said: "Daddy if we catch a fish can we eat it?"
I said: "Well there was a time son.
This water's bad now and I might not be safe to eat the fish but there was a time."
There w as a time the air was clean
and y ou could see forever cross the p lains.
The w ind was sweet as honey
and no o ne had ever heard of acid r ain.
We're t orturin' the earth
and pourin' every kind of evil in the s ea.
We v iolated nature
and our c hildren have to pay the penal-t y.
D on't go near the water children
see the fish all dead upon the s hore.
D on't go near the water
cause the w ater isn't w ater any-m ore.
D on't go near the water children
see the fish all dead upon the s hore.
D on't go near the water
cause the w ater isn't w ater any-m ore.
