S  he grew up plain and simple in a f  arming town.
Her d  addy played the fiddle and used to do the calling when they h  ad hoedowns.
She says the n  eighbors would come and they'd move all my grandma's f  urniture 'round.
And there'd be t  wenty or more there on the old wooden floor dancin' to a   country sound.

T  he Carters and Jimmy Rodgers played her f  avourite songs.
And on S  aturday nights there was a radio show and she would s  ing along.
And I'll n  ever forget her face when she reve  aled to me
That she'd dreamed about s  inging at The Grand Ol' O  pry.

H  er eyes oh how they sparkled when she s  ang those songs.
While she was h  anging the clothes on the line I was a kid just a h  ummin' along.
Well I'd be p  laying in the grass to her what might've seemed ob  liviously
But there a  in't no doubt about it: she sure made her m  ark on me.

An' she p  layed old gospel records on the p  honograph.
She t  urned them up loud and we'd sing along but those d  ays have passed.
Just n  ow that I am older it o  ccurs to me
That I was s  inging in the grandest opr  y.

And we sang S  weet Rose of Sharon A  bide With Me
'Til I r  ide The Gospel Ship to Heaven's J  ubilee.
And In That Gre  at Triumphant Morning my soul wil  l be free
And My Burdens   Will Be Lifted when my Saviour's face I see.

So I Don't Wa  nt to Get Adjusted to   This World below
But I kn  ow He'll Pilot Me 'til it comes t  ime to go.
Oh nothing on   this earth is half as dear to me
As the sound of my Mama's O  pry
