Intro :

W  ell my hearts in the Highlands gentle and fair
H  oneysuckle blooming in the wildwood air
B  luebells blazing where the Aberdeen waters fl  ow
W  ell my heart's in The Highlands I'  m gonna go there when I feel good enough to g  o

W  indows were shaking all night in my dreams
E  verything was exactly the way that it seems
W  oke up this mornin' and I looked at the same old p  age
S  ame old rat race li  fe in the same old c  age

I   don't want nothin' from anyone ain't that much to take
W  ouldn't know the difference between a real blonde and a fake
F  eel like a prisoner in a world of my  stery
I   wish someone'd come and pu  sh back the clock for m  e

W  ell my heart's in The Highlands wherever I roam
T  hat's where I'll be when I get called home
T  he wind it whispers to the buckeye trees of rh  yme
W  ell my heart's in The Highlands I   can only get there one step at a ti  me

I  'm listening to Neil Young I gotta turn up the sound
S  omeone's always yellin' "Turn it down"
F  eel like I'm driftin' driftin' from scene to sc  ene
I  'm wonderin' what in the devil could i  t all possibly me  an

I  nsanity is smashin' up against my soul
Y  ou could say I was on anything but a roll
I  f I had a conscience well I just might blow my t  op
W  hat would I do with it anyway  t  ake it to the pawn sh  op?

M  y heart's in The Highlands at the break of dawn
B  y the beautiful lake of the Black Swan
B  ig white clouds like chariots that swing down lo  w
W  ell my heart's in The Highlands on  ly place left to g  o

I  'm in Boston town in some restaurant
I   got no idea what I want
O  r maybe I do but I'm just really too su  re
W  aitress comes over no  body in the place but me and h  er

W  ell it must be a holiday there's nobody around
S  he studies me closely as I sit down
S  he got a pretty face and long white shiny le  gs
I   said "Tell me whats good today" Sh  e proudly say "You probably want hard boiled eg  gs"

I   said "That's right bring me some"
S  he says "We ain't got any you picked the wrong time to come"
T  hen she says "I know you're an artist draw a picture of m  e"
I   said "I would if I could but I   don't do sketches from mem  ory"

W  ell she's there she says "I'm right here in front of you or haven't you looked?"
I   say "All right I know but I don't have my drawin' book"
S  he throws me a napkin she say "You can do it on t  hat"
I   say "Yes I would if I co  uld but I don't know where my pencil is a  t"

S  he pulls one out from behind her ear
S  he says "OK go ahead draw me I'm stayin' right here"
I   make a few lines and I show it for her to se  e
W  ell she takes the napkin and throws it back and says "T  hat don't look a thing like m  e"

I   said "Oh kind miss it most certainly does"
S  he say "You must be joking" I said "I wish I was"
S  he says "I know you don't read women authors do y  a?" At least that's what I think I hear her say
W  ell I say "How would you know an  d what would it matter any  way?"

W  ell she says "Ya just don't seem like ya do" I said "You're way wrong"
S  he says "Which ones have you read then?" I say "Read Erica Jong"
S  he goes away for a minute and I slide out o  ut of my chair
I   head back out to the busy street but n  obody's goin' anywhere

W  ell my heart's in The Highlands with the horses and hounds
W  ay up in the border country far from the towns
W  ith the twang of the arrow and the snap of the bo  w
M  y heart's in The Highlands ca  n't go no any other place that I wanna g  o

E  very day is the same thing out the door
T  ry to repair what went wrong the day before
S  ome things in life it just gets too late to lea  rn
W  ell I'm lost somewhere I   must have made a few bad tur  ns

I   see people in the park forgettin' their troubles and woes
T  hey're drinkin' and dancin' wearin' bright colored clothes
A  ll the young men with the young women lookin' so go  od
W  ell I'd trade places with any o  f em in   a minute only if I could

I  'm crossin' the street to get away from a mangy dog
T  alkin' to myself in a monologue
I   think what I might need full-length leather c  oat
S  omebody just asked me i  f I'm registered to vo  te

W  ell my heart's in The Highlands at the break of day
O  ver the hills and far away
T  here's a way to get there and I'll figure it out some  how
W  ell I'm already there in my mind an  d that's good enough for n  ow....fade out

Love and peace
